So you bought a house.... now what? More storage? That can be done without a housing system. It wouldn't be good for anything.

Ok, first of all, let us say that there are 2,000,000 players in Guild Wars. Now how many houses do you plan on having per major city? 10? 20? Ok, now we stretch that as much as possible, with minor cities having 5 - 10, and we still have an extremely low number. Now you want to offer more storage, who needs more storage? People that farm, because they need more space to store their haul. Now if they are accomplished farmers, they can make 100k easy, and that 10k a month is nothing. So, whats the incentive for them to give up their house? Nothing. So very few people would ever get to experiance the joys of owning a home.
Second of all, the only bonus it would offer would be extra storage, which could be done without implementing a housing system. Some of you say you want to have a house to decorate, but where are the decorations gonna come from? I really don't want to go to FoW and have an enemy drop a Cherry Maple Coffee Table of Fortitude. Kinda a waste of time for everyone else.
I'm not against housing, I just think it would be too hard to implement right now. There are ways to do it, but I just don't think it would be worth the effort.

eh, no worries. I've slept since then and don't remember what I wrote. But it was something about having played many other online games and the crafting was and still is nothing but a time sink.
From what I hear, only WoW (/shudder) has crafting that is of any real in game use.
Oh well... heh

The only way I can see this working if everyone had a house only he and his friends can visit and is on an island ( like a guildhall)
And if they do it that way then what's the point? only you can see it..

coming from an old ultima online player who made literally hundreds of millions in gold and literally thousands in RL cash placing and selling houses when ultima was at its peak, i LOVE the idea of houses. that said, i dont think they fit in GW. difference is, in in ultima (and im sure in other games too), when you left town and journied to other areas, you could meet people along the way. this area was universal. in GW when you leave town, unless youre partied with people, you have your own instance of the game. no PKs, no one farming the spot you wanted, etc, etc. i just dont see how housing could be implemented with how GW works without a major investment of time and staff (which i feel is better off at the moment spent on other issues). yeah, it was nice having my own castle, tower, and heck my own ISLAND at one point, but that was a different game totally.
also, i really dont like the idea of having any housing in towns, and i also think having a "housing-only" area would be pointless as it would take away the factor of putting houses in areas you like.
all that said, i DO however totally agree with more customization of guild halls to make them more like a home. more storage obviously, the ability to decorate, and perhaps the ability to make them public and set up vendors could all be implemented. im not avid about anything but more storage, but thats just a few possibilites.

1.Hope not
2. Hows it gonna create alot of lag, if its in an instanced area(as Ive suggested)?
3.WTF?! What, you've got a house, and all of a sudden, the only thing you can do is sit in it? Hell no! You use the house to store some things(like secondary bank inventory), while you're out on quests, farming, whatever.

I may be new, but I've taken a shine to this idea. But, reading everyone's commentary, maybe a house, per se, or even a rented apartment, isn't the route to go to make the Role Players happy. Maybe, if you wanted more storage, you could go to Lion's Arch and Travel to a Xunlai Island where they have a huge warehouse, and again pay one larger fee (1k maybe?) to get a 50 slot warehouse thingy to put extra items in.
For those who want to have a place to customize, maybe we could add a new incentive to join a guild in allowing the guilds to have dormitories they can upgrade to make them larger, and then allow the guild members to flow cash in to change general things, like the amount and types of furniture, general flavor of the room, etc, etc.
If joining a guild doesn't float your boat, maybe ANet could do what they did with cities and arenas: There could be a portal into another area of the city, like the arena, but it too is also divided into districts, so that when one district is bought up, they can open another one, one with a slightly different layout and such, so that you won't get confused when you go to the wrong district and try to go into someone else's house.
I could go on for hours with little quirks and somewhat slightly different variations on this idea. I'd like to have something that I made sitting around to show people, and maybe make it an easy rendevous point.
